This project was a research and animal care facility expansion for a global pharmaceutical company who held a long term property lease arrangement with KU Endowment. The expansion consisted of a 26,233 square feet of research laboratories and offices and 9,200 square foot animal care facility. Key components of the animal care facility were two large rooms for dog runs, five small animal rooms with procedure/anti-rooms, surgery suite, necropsy room, cage wash, and separate clean and dirty receiving areas.
The original design provided an economical clean/dirty traffic flow with flexible laboratory arrangements that could be modified as research needs changed. The design required each laboratory the ability to be independent of all others with respect to relative pressures and return air.
