Sikeston Public Safety Building
Sikeston, Kansas

Needs Assessment

The preliminary planning and programming documents evaluated an opportunity for the Sikeston Public Safety Department to relocate to a MODOT building originally built in the 1920s that had been abandoned for the past several years. It was the desire of the client to provide a headquarters that would bring under one roof the police and fire divisions, combining their administrative staff, training/physical fitness facilities and community services as well as a new municipal court and court administration divisions.

The site has two distinct buildings that were planned for renovation. The primary building is a three-story brick building that would house administration services. The maintenance building would house new municipal courts, courts administration, fitness and training spaces and the police division.

New construction of a third building was recommended for a four-bay, pull-through fire station. The addition of a new grand entrance would connect the two existing buildings and provide direction for visitors and a secure entrance for the courts and public safety department.
