KU Staff Tour Kansas Statehouse Preservation and Restoration Project

In late August, staff members from the University of Kansas Design and Construction Management department were given a personal tour of the Kansas Statehouse Preservation and Restoration project by Treanor Architects’ Joy Coleman, AIA, principal and historic preservation architect.

Coleman walked the group through the project from the exterior masonry restoration to the completed Senate and House chambers, answering questions and discussing interesting project facts.

Design-Build Team Selected for Municipal Auditorium Exterior Restoration

The design-build team of Konrath Group and Treanor Architects was selected to complete the exterior restoration of The Kansas City Convention Center’s Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.

Scheduled to begin in September 2010, the $3 million project includes the restoration of the historic building’s exterior limestone and ornamental metals while keeping Municipal Auditorium fully operational. In addition to the masonry restoration, the project entails the design of exterior lighting improvements to complement the building’s majestic presence and respect the surrounding neighborhood.

Preservation Projects Discussed on Kansas City Radio Program

On Tuesday, June 22, historic preservation principal Vance Kelley discussed two Treanor projects, Northeast Junior High and Pioneer Presidents' Place, on KCUR's Walt Bodine Show. The program, "New Life for Old Schools," examined how schools that are closed permanently can be repurposed rather than being allowed to fall into disrepair and decay. LAWRENCE, KS – Treanor Architects, P.A., is pleased to announce the appointment of Joy Coleman and Jay Zimmerschied to its team of principals. The two joined Treanor’s leadership team effective January 1.

Coleman has played an integral role in the preservation and restoration of the Kansas Statehouse, the renovation of the Truman Memorial Building in Independence, Mo., and the restoration and renovation of Topeka’s Great Overland Station. Coleman has practiced at Treanor since 1999. She is a 1996 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Architecture, Design & Planning.
