Treanor is applying its sustainble design principles to its entry into Lawrence's 2011 Festival of Trees - a fundraiser for The Shelter, Inc. The hanging "wreath" includes vintage, recycled and fair trade ornaments suspended from a re-purposed Christmas tree stand. Be sure to stop by the Festival of Trees to bid on any of the lovely wreaths and trees on display. The silent wreath auction ends Tuesday afternoon and is followed by a llive auction for the trees. It's a festive event to support a wonderful cause. Hope to see you there!

Sending Aid to Joplin

Treanor staff collected food and household items to send to tornado victims in Joplin, Mo. Additional donations can be made through the American Red Cross. Our hearts go out to our Joplin neighbors.

Project (and Principals) Appear in National Magazine

The New Century Adult Detention Center in Johnson County, Kan., is featured among other Justice Facilities Review awardees in the January/February 2011 issue of Correctional News magazine. The article begins on page 34, where you can catch a glimpse of three Treanor principals, Daniel Rowe, Sharon Schmitz and Andrew Pitts, in the lower right photo. The project itself can be seen on page 36 listed among this year's JFR Merit Award winners.

Sharon Schmitz Discusses Courthouse Security in Missouri County Register

Sharon Schmitz, a Treanor Justice team principal located in our St. Louis office, was recently published in the Missouri County Record, a magazine produced in association with the Missouri Association of Counties. Sharon's expertise in courthouse security is known throughout the region, and she is happy to lend assistance to officials looking into new construction or renovation projects. New Century Adult Detention Center Wins National Award

Johnson County's New Century Adult Detention Center received a Merit Award at the Academy of Architecture for Justice's annual conference last month in Boston. The project is featured in the AIA's 2010 Justice Facilities Review. Designed in conjunction with HOK Architects, the $52 million project includes 554 new beds, administrative segregation, disciplinary segregation, maximum custody, special needs, and medium/minimum custody beds as well as a remodel of the existing facility to accommodate projected inmates and staff. The new building is connected directly to the existing facility with a secure link.

Treanor Booking it to the Lawrence Public Library for Mini-Golf Fundraiser

The Lawrence Public Library will be holding its annual "Caddy Stacks" fundraiser this weekend, and Treanor has designed a hole based on the children's book "Skeleton Hiccups." The hole will be one of 18 scattered throughout the library. Events include an adult-only VIP party on Friday night and public play Saturday and Sunday. More information can be found on the Lawrence Public Library Foundation's Web site, www.lawrencepubliclibraryfoundation.org. Come test your golf skills and raise money for a great cause!

There's a new sheriff in town...

Actually there are going to be a whole bunch of sheriffs in town! The Treanor Justice Team is getting ready for next week's Kansas Sheriff's Association Fall Training Conference at the Topeka Ramada Inn. We'll be ready to have some BBQ and catch up with law enforcement officers from across the state. Hope to see you there!

Brown County Law Enforcement Center Dedicated at Open House

More than 600 Hiawatha residents and surrounding community members visited the recently completed Brown County Law Enforcement Center at an open house Saturday, Sept. 11. The facility, which houses both the jail and sheriff's department, was dedicated to the memory of Todd Michael Widman, a sheriff's deputy who was killed in the line of duty in 2000.

The law enforcement center includes offices for sheriff’s administration, records, deputies, workroom, interview rooms, evidence and property storage. The 41-bed jail will house inmates in separate pods to maintain proper classifications.

Treanor Justice: On the Road Again

Treanor Justice will be on the road this month and throughout the fall visiting law enforcement officers and county officials across the Midwest. We are currently in Kearney through Oct. 5 at the Nebraska Sheriff Association & Police Officers' Association of Nebraska Conference. We will be in Topeka Oct. 26-28 for the Kansas Sheriff's Association Fall Training Conference. More information about that event can be found at kansassheriff.org.
