2010-10-04 Posted By: Andrea Albright

More than 600 Hiawatha residents and surrounding community members visited the recently completed Brown County Law Enforcement Center at an open house Saturday, Sept. 11. The facility, which houses both the jail and sheriff's department, was dedicated to the memory of Todd Michael Widman, a sheriff's deputy who was killed in the line of duty in 2000.

The law enforcement center includes offices for sheriff’s administration, records, deputies, workroom, interview rooms, evidence and property storage. The 41-bed jail will house inmates in separate pods to maintain proper classifications.
