Treanor Architects is proud to announce the launch of its new Sustainability Committee. The committee was formed as a grassroots effort within the company to serve as a resource and advocate for environmental sustainability. Through the incorporation of sustainable practices, educating employees and clients, and creating an environmentally responsible outreach program, this committee will address firm-wide needs in the area of environmental consciousness.

Treanor Architects attended and sponsored the second annual GSA Heartland Sustainability Forum in Overland Park Kansas. The forum is a great opportunity to learn about the latest in the federal government's sustainability movement, as well as GSA's offerings of green products and services. The keynote speaker this year was Bob Dixson, Mayor of Greensburg, Kansas.

On September 16, Sustainable Facility Magazine published Treanor Architects' article on re-purposing or renovating existing buildings.

On Tuesday, June 22, historic preservation principal Vance Kelley discussed two Treanor projects, Northeast Junior High and Pioneer Presidents' Place, on KCUR's Walt Bodine Show. The program, "New Life for Old Schools," examined how schools that are closed permanently can be repurposed rather than being allowed to fall into disrepair and decay. Pioneer Presidents' Place

At a Friday, May 7 public meeting on the Benedictine College campus, Denton Nichols and Dick Tilghman of Treanor Architects and Joel Grimmet along with Pat Willoughby from JE Dunn construction, described details of the new Academic Center. The 57,000 square foot, 85 foot high building will break ground on June 11. After years of record enrollment, new academic space is very much needed. As Nichols described it, this will truly be the signature building on campus, "quoting" architecturally from the Mount, Abbey and newer campus buildings, which he studied and got to know and love.

Emerging job markets and sustainability are two key areas of business St. Louis, Mo.'s Sheet Metal Workers' Local 36 has focused on in recent years to help create and keep up with growth in the sheet-metal and HVAC industries. Local 36 will soon be making those key areas priorities as it unveils plans for a new $15-million green facility.

Sheet Metal Workers' Local 36 announced the approval from its members to move forward with the purchase and renovation of the former Missouri Boiler building on the northeast corner of Jefferson and Choteau avenues in downtown St. Louis to develop a new state-of-the-art, 96,023 square-foot campus. Current plans call for the buildings, which will serve as the new training center, Local 36 headquarters and 1,000-seat multiple event venue, to earn Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation.
